Semtech says that LoRa Technology, in the form of LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology, will support 80 million LoRa-enabled end nodes by early 2019, making it the ideal platform for Internet of Things (IoT) solutions with thousands of real-world deployments.

The company also anticipates over 200,000 gateways will be deployed globally, which will provide the capacity to support significant network expansion of over one billion end nodes. Additionally, the number of long-range, low-power wide area networks based on the LoRaWAN open protocol is expected to exceed 70 countries.

Reportedly, LoRa Technology has thousands of real-world use cases ranging from sustainable water leakage management to efficient soil irrigation to remotely monitoring flood levels during natural disasters. By leveraging Apana’s water leak detection solution, Costco reduced water usage by 20% and saved 22% in their water bill. In a commercial potato farm, farmers utilized Sensoterra’s LoRa-based soil irrigation sensor to reduce water usage by 30%. Green Stream, a start-up focused on flood monitoring, deployed its solution across Virginia state to track flood levels in cities and towns in real-time. LoRa Technology enables fast-to-market IoT solutions, enabling innovation with support from a wide growing ecosystem of companies and developers. For more details, visit Semtech.
