Sensoterra sensors communicate over the LoRa network. LoRa is a Long Range radio technology which allows devices to communicate over relatively long distances while consuming very little power. This makes it ideal for agriculture and landscaping applications.
We chose LoRaWAN because:
Our sensors transmit and receive data over large distances (up to 2.5Km / 2miles)
Standardisation makes the communication platform very scalable
Optimised battery consumption due to Low Power needs
Proven technology, globally available being used by millions of sensors
We can ensure secure and encrypted data
Our sensors are available in the LoRa North American (NA), European (EU), Australian (AU) and Asian (AS) frequencies. Other frequencies can be provided on a build to order basis. We currently have millions of data points routing through more than 25 different Network operators providing national, regional, statewide or local services. Where existing coverage is not in place we can offer some pre-tested gateway and data bundles.
The network structure can be explained like this:
Check with local telecoms if there is LoRa coverage in the area you wish to install sensors. If there is, let us know your chosen solution and we will provision your sensors accordingly before shipping.
If you do not have access to a local service you can set up your own gateway. We can introduce you to our suppliers or sell a gateway kit with your sensors.
Once provisioned to the LoRaWAN network our sensors will automatically connect to a gateway that is within range as part of the installation process.
